What is Ozone Therapy?
Ozone therapy is a revolutionary alternative medical treatment and is being practiced all over the world. It uses ozone, a colourless gas made up of three oxygen atoms. Ozone has therapeutic effects and has been studied and used for over 150 years. A layer of ozone is found in the earth's stratosphere. Its primary purpose is to protect the earth from the sun's ultraviolet radiation, most of which it absorbs.
In medicine, ozone therapy is used to disinfect and treat conditions by disinfecting the area around them, improving the body's intake and use of oxygen, and activating the immune system.
The idea of Ozone Therapy came from Dr Otto H. Warburg, a German physiologist, medical doctor and 1931 Nobel Prize winner. Otto Warburg was born in 1883 in Baden, Germany. His father was Emil Warburg, a physiologist and close friend of Albert Einstein.
Ozone therapy has been found to be useful in several ways in medicine. When it was first used more than 150 years ago, it was to disinfect and treat diseases. During the First World War, its application to wounds showed not only its ability to disinfect but also to aid blood flow and produce anti-inflammatory effects.
Later, it was found to be a useful treatment for people with HIV before pharmaceutical medication was available.
Today it is used for treating the following:
- infected wounds
- circulatory disorders
- geriatric disorders
- macular degeneration
- viral diseases
- rheumatism and arthritis
Ozone therapy may improve brain function, fight bacteria, and speed up healing, reduce pain, help with muscle recovery after events, etc. There have been some promising studies examining how ozone may be beneficial to your health
- Detox the body
- improving brain function and memory
What to expect when you come for treatment
In the privacy of our Ozone room, you will remove all your clothes and wrap a towel around yourself, you will then be helped into the pod where you sit comfortably on the seat, which can be adjusted, the doors of the pod are then closed to cover your body while your head remains outside the pod.
During the session, ozone is introduced into the body via your skin while sitting in the hot steam pod, Far Infrared rays (FIR) heat up the body, the ozone penetrates the blood, lymph and fat to enhance all bodily processes, including production of hormones and enzymes. During the process your body will be in a regenerative state, helping the body to heal. The heat also dilates the pores and enhances circulation. The FIR penetrates deeply into the skin and subcutaneous tissue, helping to relieve joint and muscle aches and pain as well as binding to heavy metals, helping the detoxification process.
By allowing ozone in and toxins out via the sweating process that is induced, transdermal ozone therapy is one of the most powerful methods of detoxifying and oxygenating the body, thus one might experience the effect of a detox after.
The treatments is normally 30 minutes long unless otherwise specified.
