Staying fit and healthy in the winter months often seems to feel like more of a chore than during other seasons. You are drawn to warming comfort foods and much less willing to jump out of bed in the mornings. Here are some ways to ensure you stay healthy and active during the colder months of the year.

Battle the Winter Fatigue

Feeling sluggish and even lazy in the winter is normal, being cozy in bed is so comfortable after all.  One way to ensure that you don’t feel the winter fatigue is to stick to a routine. Go to bed and wake up at the same time everyday so your sleep cycle is seldom interrupted.

Taking some time after you have woken up or before you go to bed for meditation is also beneficial to clearing your thoughts and de-stressing. Stress can be what is causing you to feel lethargic.

Add Omega 3’s and Vitamin C to Your Diet

Joints and muscles tend to feel tight in winter and can lead to inflammation and joint pain. One way to get ahead of this is to include omega 3 fatty acids in your diet. They are a natural anti-inflammatory and will aid to keep joint pain at bay.

Making sure you take in enough vitamin C can help to stave off colds and flu which will take you away from your routine. 

Exercise Indoors or at Home

If you can’t bring yourself to go for a run outside then you can still get your exercise indoors or even at home. There are countless workout videos online you can follow without needing very much space to do it in.

Anything from yoga to aerobics can be done from the comfort of your own home. In our technological age, the cold weather does not have to stand in the way of you getting your exercise.
